Dear Friends in Christ,
I have just returned (by grace of God & the prayers of the Saints) with good friend Jay Newsome of “Hope Of The World Ministries” from the dark/ chaotic country of Nepal. Eleven airplane flights, volcanic ash, 43 hour plane ride and airport time to get home, 500,000 Maoist Rebels, public beheadings, 105 degree temps to snow in the mountains, no transportation after May 1st, 4-7 hour mountain walks a day at 8,000 to 9,000 ft. altitude, and walking several miles to airport (Kathmandu) with Maoist Rebels all around. Dangerous snakes were found above the snake line in the mountains, we had no possible idea of how/when we could come home, and total chaos in all the country. There was no water, food, electricity, transportation (the Maoist had shut it all down). Cars and buses were burned, people beaten by mobs, and killings were conducted in public, there were dangerous mountain flights in the Himalayas (we barely flew over several mountain tops in a small prop mountain plane), and much more! Sounds like a real mission trip to the unreached!
“But God” He will make a way - where there is no way!
After seven days of travel, we finally reached our 1st village at a little under 8,000 ft (after a 5 hour walk through the mountains) this would be our home base camp for a few days. For one year we had talked & planned on going where the Lord has directed me for many years - out to the unreached in totally dark areas of the world - This was Jumla, Nepal, - High up in the far northwest section of Nepal, close toward the Tibet border. Day after day, we preached the “Good News” to Hindu & Tibetan Buddhist. The huge majority had never seen a white man and most had NEVER HEARD OF JESUS! Due to fear of radical physical persecution, the people would not come forward, nor raise a hand to publicly receive Christ (even though we were told they all wanted to). The treking (walking) up mountains was physically demanding - but we were on a mission from God “To Carry The Light of the Cross to a Totally Dark Area and People”.
At the end we had shared the Gospel with over 1,000 people - most hearing of Jesus for the 1st time. Eleven people out of 1,000 prayed to receive Christ, but the seed was planted in previously unplowed soil.
There was one day in one village that totally broke my heart!
We had walked three hours and spent the night (in a
mountain village). The next day, we walked up, up,
up, and up! We were over 9,000 ft. and all the sudden,
we could easily see the high snow mountains
of the Tibet border. We finally got to our village
and around
50-60 Tibetan
Buddhist sat
down to watch
and listen. They said not one person had ever heard the name of
Jesus - No one had ever been there with the Gospel and many
had never seen a white man.
It was my turn to preach and I could barely finish as I held back the tears. The Holy Spirit poured out such great compassion on me for these lost souls! In the end, not one person publicly received Christ but I knew that the Holy Spirit was moving on the people. One lady said, “today, God has come to our village - We have heard Good News!” As we were leaving to start our long descent down, a lady brought her deaf son to us. She had faith to believe that our God would heal him. We prayed for him and the Lord opened up his ear to hear. She was so happy. I know in my Spirit that there will be a great church there soon!
There is not enough room to tell everything that happened next!
After a seven hour walk to Jumla, we woke up to snow and the probability of no plane to come and pick us up to carry us back to Kathmandu. We prayed and decreed for the weather to break - praise God it did! We had heard that the Maoist Rebels were shutting down the country (to take over the government) and all domestic flights were being stopped by force. By the Grace of God and your prayers, we boarded the last plane out of there and the connecting small town down south. We absolutely were on the last plane back to Kathmandu (which was shut down by 500,000 rebels). For three days we couldn’t leave the house we stayed in, but went up on the roof to observe the chaos that was all around. We also found out that right outside the small airstrip we had just left from - that the Maoist publicily beheaded a man after cutting off both arms!
On Thursday morning we were told that the only way to get to the international airport in Kathmandu was to walk!
We were told that the Maoist would let a tourist taxi pick us up half way. Road blocks were every
100 yards with hundreds and thousands of young angry Maoists. There was supernatural protection
on us as we walked (with our bags) through them. We were told that they were mad at the Government and
not us. We finally flew out to Amsterdam where we were greeted with a new eruption of the
volcano in Iceland. In all, it took 43 hours to get home - but we made it.
Thanks to your prayers and grace of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord has spoken to me to reclaim the High Places (Himalayas) for Him and His Kingdom! There will be several home churches started because of this trip! This ministry has been clearly called by God for the last 16 years to carry the light and cross of the Kingdom and to plant it in dark/unplowed soil - out in the unreached areas of the world - to the forgotten unreached people in the wild/remote bush, jungle or mountains.
A special thank you to all you wonderful partners who gave/prayed for these people to hear of the LOVE OF GOD.
