I have just returned from the wild remote bush of Masai Land of the Kenya and Tanzania Border.
Going with me on his first Africa trip was Christian Almazan who said, “This was quite a culture shock for me”.
I have been going to the Masai for the last 16 years and every trip is different. The Lord always has different things that he wants to accomplish on every trip. Our job is to simply show up and report for duty.
After flying to Nairobi, we drove 5-6 hours to the small border town of Nimanga, which is on the border of Kenya and Tanzania. We based out of there, to where each day we would drive 2-3 hours (1 way) deep into the wild/remote bush to find unreached small villages (family units) of the Masai. After sharing the Good News and praying for the blind, deaf, and sick, we would drive back to Namanga to spend the night.
Christian was really amazed at how much traveling we did each day over dirt roads, trails and sometimes over the bush where there was no road or trails! We became very tired.
Village after village we would ask the people, as we met under the shade trees, “Do you know what happens to you after you die?”
They would always say, “We don’t know. You just die and your body goes to the ground. Your finished. No more!”
We would then proceed to share about Father God and His love for them, that He gave His only Son to come to earth to die as a sacrifice for their sins. We described what sin is and how beautiful Heaven is using their cultural terms.
In one village, I was talking about Heaven (village God and his Son) when a man stopped me and said, “This place sounds so good, but we don’t know how to get there! Can you tell us the road or trail to take?”
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God has put eternity into the hearts of all people! Everyone wants (or thinks about) living on after we die. Many just don’t just don’t know it’s possible. They have never heard the Good News.
Remember: The Good News does them NO GOOD - If it gets there late - or not at all!
One particular day, we drove an especially long way (almost to the base of Mt. Kilimantard). We came to a large boma (village) and gathered the people (30-40). All of the sudden, an older lady said, “I remember this babu (grandfather - Dub). He came to my village 2-3 years ago when I lived far from here. He prayed a blessing on us after he told us of the True God and my life greatly changed for the better. My family has been greatly blessed ever since that day. I have been so happy ever since!”
Another older mama said that she would marry me and be my second wife. I kindly declined!
While driving back that afternoon, we were driving on black dirt trails and it started to rain. This was a blessing to the Masai (water means life), but great danger for us. We were out in the wilderness, surrounded by wild animals (elephants kill many, many people), and the dirt turned to slippery black mud! Even in a 4-wheel drive Land Rover we were slipping and sliding and finally became stuck! We were there for a while when I noticed off in the distance a Masai Warrior (Moran) was running towards us to help us.
As he same near, we got unstuck and we jumped in quickly while it was still raining. We handed him 100 shillings (for coming to help us) and looked funny at us as he motioned his hands. One of the workers said, “He is a deaf mute. Totally, deaf and cannot speak.” Even though we had to go, I jumped out of the car, with Christian behind me, and said, “In the name of Jesus. Be healed.”
All of the sudden his eyes got big and he heard perfectly! Praise God! We jumped back in the car and drove off. The young man who came running to help the servants of God got his reward was totally healed! He would hear of Jesus from the village. One of the workers said, “He came running for this healing! A book of Acts healing miracle by Jesus and the Great Holy Spirit.
That really touched my heart. As I talked with Jan (my wife) that night, she said 10-12 people had met at our home the night before and prayed from 8:00pm to midnight!
God Responds to prayer. In all, well over a hundred Masai got on their knees in the dirt and prayed to receive and follow Jesus!
More holes were punched into a Dark Veil of a Demonic grip and the light and cross of the Kingdom planted in a dark area.
This was all made possible because of “YOU” that prayed and/or gave financially!
The Lord has taken notice of your sacrificial prayers and gifts! Your eternal reward is collecting interest (Philippians 4:13).
For the whole trip we only met two people who knew who Jesus is or who had ever heard the Gospel!
“The World Still Waits!”
This ministry has been called for 18 years to go where none or few have been - out to the forgotten people who live in the wild, remote bush/jungle or Mountains!
We have a Critical Need of $2000 for a new dirt bike for the Masai Evangelist to use in order to go back and disciple the new Christians there and in other villages. |
